Colour of heartwood:
Salmon-coloured, after drying light red brown to yellowish red brown with a medium to pronounced golden lustre.

Colour of sapwood:
Yellowish white to dirty-yellow or grey brown colour.

Mass density:
550 - 750 kg/m³ at 12% humidity

Grain:
Straight-grained to cross-grained, sometimes spiral grain.

Fissure:
Fissure and collapse may occur when not dried properly; if this is the case, a wood selection must be made.

Warping:
Medium

  Bio-substances:
The tissue contains a waxy substance, which may cause drying problems.

Mould and insects:
Both sapwood and heartwood are highly durable.

Durability grade:
2 - Durable

Gluing:
Excellent, provided that the wood was dried properly.

Machining:
Excellent, buthas a blunting effect on the cutting tools Dekker range:  see Elephant range.

General applications:
Replacement of oak in hydraulic works and for front wall panelling and frames.
