Colour of heartwood:

Pink-red to deep red brown. The heartwood often has a wonderful golden lustre.

Grey-pink to yellow-pink

Grain:

Usually strongly cross-grained. Thin timber can be perfectly straight-grained.

Fissure:

Hardly ever occurs when dried properly. Risk of fissure arising due to cross-grain.

Warping:

When properly dried, Sapeli has a medium tendency to warping.

 

Knots:

Large, healthy knots may occur. Depending on the work and purpose, these may or may not be allowed.

  Bio-substances:
The bio-substances cause a blue-grey discolouration after the material has been in contact with iron.

Mould and insects:
High resistance against invasion by mould and insects

Durability grade:
3 - medium durability

Gluing:
Reasonably good.

Machining:
Can be machined with HS or HW cutting tools. Rebate cutters equipped with precutters to prevent splintering. A fine wood species for traditional and sophisticated wood processing equipment.

KOMO certified: - solid - finger-jointed Preserving: no Paint systems: Solvent-based paint allowed; water-based paint as a base system allowed. Finishing: - opaque Hardness: hard
