According to the Malaysian Grading Rules:

Colour of heartwood:

Heartwood is pink brown to red brown.

Colour of sapwood:

Light red brown to yellowish red and difficult to discern from the heartwood.

Mass density:

690 kg/m3 15% m/m average.

Grain:

Some slope of grain is usually apparent and the wood is reasonably cross-grained.

Fissure:

Surface has a tendency to light/medium fissure. This is why the drying process must be carried out with due care.

Warping:

Provided the wood was dried properly, it does not have much tendency to warp.


  Knots:
Minimal.

Bio-substances:
Gritty bio-substances.

Mould and insects:
Reasonable resistance to mould and insects.

Durability grade:
3 - 4, medium to low durability.

Gluing:
Reasonable to good.

Machining:
Excellent machining possible with hard-metal cutting tools. The gritty bio-substance has a blunting effect on the cutting tools.

General applications:
Construction wood and floors. This is a possible alternative for meranti.
