Colour of heartwood:
The heartwood is light grey,
yellowish light beige to brown / red brown in colour with light lines of the
parenchyma tissue around the vessels.
Colour of sapwood:
The sapwood is sometimes easy,
sometimes less easy to discern from the heartwood and has a pale yellow to
yellowish colour, sometimes to light brown.
Mass density:
(650-) 700- 800(-860) kg/m³ at 12%
humidity, fresh 1140-1,200 kg/m³
Grain:
Straight-grained, or irregular or cross-grain
Fissure:
Hair fissure sometimes occurs during the
drying process
Warping:
The wood tends towards light warping during
the drying process

Machining:
Medium easy to saw, medium to excellent to
plane, shave, sand and turn. Tear-out may occur in cross-grained wood. Some
species result in a woolly surface. Some species contain a little grit, which
has a blunting effect on the cutting tools.
