Ipé contains the substance lapachol.
During the planing / shaving process, this may cause skin allergies. The
substance gives a deep red colour after contact with alkaline substances. The
purple colorant in the substance may dissolve in water and cause bleeding.

Both sapwood and heartwood are
highly durable.

Gluing:
In view of the high mass density this is
probably difficult
Machining:
Difficult to machine due to the high mass
density; has a blunting effect on the cutting tools. Ipé gives a smooth finish.
