In principle not allowed under Dekker Hout's quality standard.

  Bio-substances:
Ipé contains the substance lapachol. During the planing / shaving process, this may cause skin allergies. The substance gives a deep red colour after contact with alkaline substances. The purple colorant in the substance may dissolve in water and cause bleeding.

Mould and insects:
Both sapwood and heartwood are highly durable.

Durability grade:
1, highly durable

Gluing:
In view of the high mass density this is probably difficult 

Machining:
Difficult to machine due to the high mass density; has a blunting effect on the cutting tools.   Ipé gives a smooth finish.

General applications:
Predominantly used in construction works, cross-bars, outdoor and indoor carpenting, parquet, floors, furniture, wood turning, cutting work; industrial floors, archers' bows, tool handles.
