Grain:
Generally rather straight-grained.
Fissure:
Cuts with embedded heartwood are subject to
extensive fissure. Checks are frequent.
Warping:
Provided the wood was dried properly, it has
only a medium tendency to warping.
Knots:
The knots are generally black and slightly
harder than the surrounding wood.
Bio-substances:
Pine contains resin and freshly
processed pine spreads a characteristic turpentine smell.

Mould and insects:
Invasion by blue mould often
occurs, in particular in wet wood.
Durability grade:
3 - 4, medium to low durability.
Gluing:
Reasonable to good.
Machining:
Very easy to process with HSS cutting
tools. Rebate cutters must be equipped with pre-cutters in view of splintering.
Cutting tools and machines must regularly be cleaned of resin.

applications, including Dekker Hout's Standard wooden interior door frames and
the pine ‘re-adjustable' frames with fire resistance certificate and pin frames
and beading.
