Fissure:
Some inclination to fissure during the drying process, in particular during the first drying periods.

Warping:
Medium; for special purposes it is advisable to apply quarter-sawn blocks.

Knots:
Knots may occur; if this is the case, the timber is referred to as ‘rustic oak'.

 

  Bio-substances:
Oak naturally contains tannic acid (tannin), causing blue-black stains if not applying stainless steel screws.

2 - Durable

Durability grade:
2 - 3, durable to medium durable

Gluing:
Good 

Machining:
Easy to machine, turn and cut

General applications:
Very wide range of applications ranging from construction wood to application in bridges and hydraulic works. Also in floors; additionally, it is irreplaceable (due to its tannic acid content) in manufacturing barrels for wine, sherry, cognac and other alcoholic drinks.
