Cuts with heartwood are subject to extensive fissure. Both checks and dry fissure are frequent.

Medium warping after drying. Drying the wood too quickly in the kiln may cause interior fissure, so-called collapse.

Knots:

Large knots are frequent, but are excluded within the FAS standard.

Mould and insects:
Largely unknown.

Durability grade:
3 - medium durability, is currently the subject of study.

Gluing:
Highly suitable for gluing.

Machining:
Very easy to process with HW (hard-metal) cutting tools. Rebate cutters to be provided with pre-cutters due to splintering. Pre-drilling is highly recommended.

KVT:
Is currently being tested for applications including glazing beads and exterior cladding.

General applications:
Suitable for indoor applications: frames, interior carpenting, furniture, wall panelling, boxes etc. Due to its fissure tendency, Dekker Hout recommends to limit the thickness of the cuts to 33 mm.
