Standard and Better according to Malaysian Grading Rules.

Colour of heartwood: 

The heartwood is deep red, red brown to orange brown.

Colour of sapwood:

The sapwood is white to light yellow brown.

Mass density:

640 kg/m3 15% m/m average.

Grain: 

Generally strong cross-grains and medium slope of grain.

Fissure: 

Surface has a tendency to fissure. Wood dried too quickly contains extensive dry fissure. Checks are frequent.

Warping: 

Unless carefully dried, the wood has a medium tendency to warping.

 

Knots:

Large, intergrown knots may occur, but are excluded within the Select & Better standard.

Bio-substances: 

No specifics.

Mould and insects: 

Virtually not applicable.


Durability grade: 

Not yet determined; expected to be in Grade 2-3. FSC-certified Bintangor of the Salomon islands is allowed for front wall panelling, KVT'95 grade A.

Gluing: 

Reasonable to good.

Machining: 

Proper machining possible only with hard-metal cutting tools. Fixtures such as screws and wire nails must be pre-drilled.
