Colour of heartwood:
Freshly sawn heartwood is yellow
brown, usually with lines and often with an orange tinge, darkening into red
brown.
Colour of sapwood:
The sapwood is a pinky colour and
not always clearly distinct from the heartwood.

Grain:
Generally rather strong cross-grain
Smell:
Please note that Angelim Vermelho emanates a
strong, urine-like smell that is particularly activated by contact with water
(rain).
Mould and insects:
The wood is probably resistant to
termite invasion

Machining:
In spite of the hardness, this wood is easy
to machine. When planing, some tear-out may occur due to the cross-grain, but
in general a smooth finish is easy to attain.

General applications:
Heavy construction work including
hydraulic works, bridges, ships, port installations and sheet pile walls.
Furthermore for dragline mats, stone
shapes, woven divider fences, wagon floors, work shop floors and work benches.
Also suitable for soundproof screens, anti-parking posts, fruit tree posts etc.
When applying angelim vermelho, remember it reacts with rain water, producing a
bad smell - therefore not suitable for outdoor applications such as sitting
